Principal Resourcing are supporting one of our partner schools in Kirklees, catering for pupils in Key Stages 2-4 with severe and complex Social, Emotional and Mental Health difficulties (SEMH), to recruit Inclusion Support Workers. The roles are 5 days a week but they will consider part time for the right candidates.  You can expect to paid up to £90 per day.

The school have high expectations of their pupils; build a secure and happy atmosphere in which pupils can learn effectively; offer a broad range of subjects and qualifications, including GCSEs. However, they are different to other schools in that they organise their pupils into nurture groups; structure the day and their curriculum to support pupils with SEMH difficulties and employ specialist staff to support the special educational needs of their pupils.

As part of this specialist team, Inclusion Support Workers play an important role in helping to create a stimulating, safe and structured environment in which the pupils can realise their potential. This role includes providing practical support for learning and other school activities, helping pupils to develop their academic, social and emotional skills. This will involve working with small groups and/or individual pupils in and out of the classroom. As an Inclusion Support Worker, you will make considerable use of effective communication and conciliatory skills including the use of restorative practices with pupils, schools and families. You will need to be experienced at managing difficult conversations, meetings and diffusing challenging behaviour. The majority of the pupils are extremely vulnerable and can have very complex family backgrounds.

Within the role you are required to:

  • Provide a calming and nurturing support for some of Wakefield’s most vulnerable students
  • Be resilient, not easily offended and have the skills to de-escalate sometimes challenging situations
  • Have a commitment to the settings to ensure the children you are supporting have a regular role model and routine
  • Show an interest in the children that you are working with in order that you can build mutually respected relationships

Skills and attributes:

  • Ability to relate well to pupils and young adults with additional needs, experience of working with SEN, LAC or residential support worker would be advantageous.
  • Be able to remain calm under pressure
  • Be confident, passionate and highly motivated
  • The ability to take note of, and acting on, all issues relating to the wellbeing and safeguarding of children
  • Cache level 3 or equivalent or experience working in a similar setting
  • Team Teach or MAPA qualification is advantageous
