Supporting Students with SEND through Principal Resourcing
SEND refers to a large range of different conditions impacting on how children and young people learn and communicate. Effective, child centred support is vital for their academic, social and emotional development. You can help to make a difference by working with Principal Resourcing.
The rewarding roles we offer can vary depending on the needs of the pupils and may include working in mainstream or in specialised SEND settings. We require all candidates to have a specific set of essential skills for all SEND roles. Additional experience or knowledge will also be required for other positions.
As a supply teacher or learning support, you will work to create a positive and supportive environment that will enhance the learning experience for SEND pupils. Working within a team including the SENCO, you will assist with the implementation of EHCP/IEPs. You will be required to ensure that the specific needs of each individual pupil are met. You’ll also provide continuous support to encourage the achievement of both personal and academic targets for the child.
Do you have what it takes to work in SEN?
With an average of 6 SEND pupils in each class, supporting SEND may just require an extension of your existing classroom practice. For more complex or individual needs, experience may be required, and we can assist in plugging any gaps through tailored CPD and support. It is essential that you possess the below 4 key skills:
- Patience
- Empathy
- Good communication skills including speaking, listening and positive body language
- A passion for nurturing and supporting pupils.
Children with more complex needs may need assistance with communication, personal and physical development as well as educational support and a small number will have an EHCP. We’ll discuss your experience with you but if you have experience with any of the above, there may be additional opportunities open to you.
