Every year we struggle to choose a design for our company Christmas card. Due to the overwhelming response to our world cup competition we are running a Christmas card design competition. It's a chance for both budding designers and creative pupils to share their ideas and compete against other local schools. We're looking for any form of Christmas related designs from traditional designs to funky, festive and fun-loving ones.

New Schools Network will provide pre-application support to those hoping to open free schools Following a competitive bidding process, the Department for Education has approved grant funding for New Schools Network (NSN) to provide pre-application support to parents, teachers and community groups and others hoping to open free schools. The grant will also allow NSN to support free schools in the pipeline and open free schools. NSN is a registered charity.

Ofsted is to begin "no-notice" inspections as part of moves to improve discipline standards. These inspections will follow when concerns have been raised about disruptive pupils. Inspectors will select schools for the one day visits based in part on worries about discipline in the classroom expressed via a website that invites parents to have their say.
